For healthcare service, there are several hospitals in Makale and Rantepao. There are also Public Health centers ('puskesmas') in all districts in Tana toraja. These hospitals and 'Puskesmas' give basic health service to the patients. For more advanced service, hospitals  in Pare-Pare and Makassar are usually chosen.

For public security, police stations and army headquarters are in Makale, Rantepao and several  districts in Tana toraja. The  signs are usually very clear on the street side. The offices give security services 24 hours.

The Rupiah is the official currency and comes in denominations of 100,000,- , 50,000,- ,20,000,-,10,000,-,5,000,-,1000,-,500,- and 100,-.  US $ and Euro  are accepted at most banks, hotels and restaurants. Banks and money changers can be found in Rantepao and Makale.  Credit cards, like Master Card, Maestro or Visa Card, are widely accepted at some banks, hotels, restaurants and shops.

   Besides several banks in Rantepao and Makale, there are also some small branches of Bank BRI in some Districts around Tana toraja, yet they have very limited services. Those banks above provide various services including for Automatic Teller machine (ATM).

In Tana toraja many kinds of Indonesian magazine and newspaper can be easily found at the shops, bookstores and supermarkets in Rantepao and Makale.  They are such as Femina, Kartini, Kompas, Fajar, Seputar Indonesia, Tempo, etc.  Unfortunately, Foreign magazine and newspaper are hardly found. Local newspaper like Kareba and Palopo Pos can also be read. For  electronic ones, TV and radio are scattered throughout Tana toraja and it means the local people hardly ever miss the latest information from the world.
