Tana Toraja is unique. There, a single buffalo is more important than Obama and Mc Cain together.. The landscape filled with rice fields and mountains and the culture of the Torajas are breathtaking.. sitting in the middle of a funeral drinking palm wine with the family and seeing the pigs and buffalos around, like in a banquet of Asterix and Obelix, is quite an experience..

Anyhow, as for the architecture, I think Toraja deserves the description UNIQUE !!!

My wife and I have visited the 'real' headhunters (not the modern business kind!), and slept in one of their 'longhouses' at the interior of Borneo, and we have spent 3 nights in a village at the Amazon indians in Peru - but nowhere have we seen architecture comparable to what we saw in this village Torajas !

The main attraction of South Sulawesi is Tana Toraja, but this province has other interesting places like Makasar, the Tempe lake, the Mamasa valley or Pantai Bira.

Probably no other area mirrors the fundamentals of Southeast Asia as well as Tana Toraja!

Fascinating culture and landscapes, but public bus ride from Makassar is rough.
